Attention New NPSIAns!
On behalf of the NPSIA Soirée Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Ottawa and what will surely be an amazing and exciting year in your academic careers and professional lives.
While your studies are obviously an important part of your time in the NPSIA program, it is your involvement and experience outside of your studies that will truly define your NPSIA experience. This is why we strongly encourage you to consider becoming a part of the NPSIA Soirée team for 2014!
NPSIA’s Benefit Soirée is a yearly fundraising event put on entirely by NPSIA students. The event is our school’s opportunity to give back to the community we study, while providing students opportunities to network with classmates, Professors, professionals and members of the diplomatic community. Last year, Soirée was held at the magnificent Château Laurier and featured former Governor General Michaëlle Jean as our Keynote Speaker. Charities supported in the past include War Child, the Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF, AfghanAid, the Haiti Earthquake Relief and CARE Canada. All proceeds from the Soirée event go to a select charity (usually agreed upon with the Keynote Speaker).
Events of this caliber require a great team of dedicated and driven individuals to create and execute. Please know that this may be a considerable time commitment, however, it is also an incredibly rewarding opportunity that provides unparalleled experience and contacts.
An upcoming information session will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 5:30pm in the Resource Centre. The info session will provide students with details about the event and planning process. We will also discuss the responsibilities of the organizing committee and individual positions open for election, such as: – Co-Presidents (2) – Treasurer – Speaker Coordinator – Venue Coordinator – Fundraising Manager
Note: this list is not an exhaustive and for many categories there may be multiple people in that position (with the exceptions of the Co-Presidents and Treasurer).
A following meeting to be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, also at 5:30pm in the Resource Centre, will act as a second info session for those unable to attend the first, and a venue for electing the aforementioned positions.
If you have any questions, or if you are unable to attend either of the information sessions, but would like to be a part of the committee, please contact Michelle Barclay (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Paul Donaldson (email@example.com).
